Dubai, Oct 7 (NationPress) Tazmin Brits, the opening batter for South Africa, has ascended two positions to achieve a career-best rank of fourth in this week's update of the ICC Women's ODI Player Rankings. This leap followed her remarkable score of 101 during the Proteas' six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the Women’s World Cup on Monday.
Brits’ century marks her fifth of the year, setting a record for the highest number of three-figure scores by a female cricketer within a single calendar year. Following a disappointing loss to England in their tournament opener, South Africa made an impressive comeback.
Meanwhile, Australia's Ash Gardner has climbed to fifth place among batters, achieving a personal milestone after moving up seven spots with 697 rating points, trailing just behind Brits who has 706.
Gardner's previous best was 10th in January. Her ascent is attributed to a stunning performance where she scored 115 runs off 83 balls in their tournament debut against the White Ferns, a match Australia triumphed by 89 runs.
New Zealand's captain, Sophie Devine, has also made strides, rising seven places to tie her career-best eighth position in the batters' rankings, following scores of 112 and 85 in defeats against Australia and South Africa. She last reached this ranking in October 2024.
In Pakistan, opener Sidra Amin made a mark with her 81-run innings against India, propelling her three places up to 10th, marking her first entry into the top 10 of the Women’s ODI Batting Rankings after being 13th in December 2023.
Indian player Deepti Sharma has also improved her ranking, moving up one position to 17th after scoring 53 against Sri Lanka and 25 against Pakistan.
In the ICC Women’s ODI Bowling Rankings, South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp has moved one spot to fifth. Additionally, teammate Nonkululeko Mlaba made a significant leap of six positions after her four-wicket haul against New Zealand, reaching a career-high 13th place with 589 points, up from 19th in September.
Australian bowler Alana King has also improved, moving from eighth to seventh in the latest rankings, while fellow Australian Annabel Sutherland is now just 19 points behind Mlaba with a total of 570, sitting at 14th, her highest ranking to date. Previously, she was ranked 17th in December 2024.
