Srinagar, Nov 22 (NationPress) The third edition of the CRPF cricket tournament commenced on Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar city, with officials confirming that all necessary precautions have been implemented to maintain a peaceful and secure environment.
During a press briefing at the tournament's launch, IG CRPF, P.K. Sharma, highlighted the extensive measures taken to ensure a secure and peaceful setting in Srinagar for the Third CRPF Cricket Tournament.
This annual tournament has been consistently held since November and December of 2023.
“The objective of the tournament is to engage the youth, fostering both sports and culture. This year, approximately 123 teams from Srinagar, Baramulla, and Ganderbal expressed interest, but due to time limitations, a draw was conducted, leading to the selection of sixteen teams for participation,” stated the IG.
The event is organized in partnership with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), with the ground being provided by the University of Kashmir.
The IG emphasized the importance of youth involvement.
“We have set age limits to encourage greater participation from players in the under-19 and under-23 categories. The Kashmir region is rich in cricketing talent and enthusiasm. Through sports, we aim to foster peace, harmony, and build positive connections with the youth,” remarked Sharma.
“The CRPF, in collaboration with the J&K Police, Army, and civil administration, is united in efforts to uphold peace. While today is a celebration of sports, I want to assure you that comprehensive measures have been implemented from our side,” he added, noting that the CRPF has been operational in the region for the past 35 years, with growing public cooperation.
The CRPF is engaged in anti-terror operations and maintaining law and order in J&K, functioning synergistically with the J&K Police.
Meanwhile, the Army conducts anti-infiltration operations along the Line of Control (LoC), while the Border Security Force (BSF) secures the international border.
