New Delhi, April 8 (NationPress) In a thrilling encounter, the Gujarat Titans narrowly defeated the Delhi Capitals by a mere one run in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), leaving a lasting impression on fans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Despite a valiant effort from David Miller, who almost achieved the improbable, the last-ball run-out of Kuldeep Yadav secured a memorable victory for GT, marking their first win of the season.

Miller showcased his remarkable skills after joining the game while Delhi was still far from their target. After initially retiring hurt with an injured left hand, he returned to the crease and struck a fantastic 41 runs off just 20 balls, yet it wasn't sufficient to clinch the win for the Capitals, who finished at 209/8.

The decisive moment occurred when two runs were needed off the final two balls. Miller opted against a single on the second-last ball, choosing to finish the game himself. However, Prasidh Krishna expertly bowled a slower ball, resulting in Kuldeep's run-out due to a swift throw from Jos Buttler, leaving Miller and DC devastated.

KL Rahul provided hope for Delhi with an impressive 92 runs off 52 balls, decorated with 11 fours and four sixes. Yet, it was Rashid Khan's exceptional bowling that kept GT in contention, ultimately sealing the match in a dramatic finale.

DC's chase of 211 began positively, with Pathum Nissanka hitting three fours off Mohammed Siraj in the opening over, demonstrating his calm and composed batting style. Rahul soon joined the action with a delightful pick-up shot over mid-on against Kagiso Rabada, and effortlessly cleared the boundary for six off Siraj. Rashid's introduction provided some balance, but the powerplay ended with DC at a healthy 63/0.

Nissanka continued to impress, scoring three fours and a six against Ashok Sharma, including a magnificent drive over cover that brought 23 runs from the powerplay. Although Prasidh dismissed Nissanka for 41, Rahul accelerated, lofting the ball over the bowler’s head and sending another over long-off for six.

Rahul reached a splendid fifty off 29 balls, but disaster struck in the tenth over when Rashid claimed two crucial wickets. Nitish Rana was given lbw after a review, only to fall to a catch on the very next ball. The in-form Sameer Rizvi was also dismissed for a golden duck by Rashid’s googly, marking his 1000th wicket across formats. Nevertheless, Rahul continued to score, hitting boundaries off Rabada and Ashok.

DC's luck appeared to turn when an overthrow from Shubman Gill gifted them four additional runs. However, the momentum shifted again as Tristan Stubbs was run out, and Rahul fell just short of his century, edging a delivery behind after lofting Siraj.

With 36 runs needed from 12 balls, a returning Miller struck Siraj for two massive sixes, igniting the crowd's enthusiasm. After a 23-run over, and GT penalized for slow over rates, Vipraj Nigam lofted Prasidh for four but fell on the following delivery. On the last ball, with two runs required, Kuldeep was run out by Buttler’s underarm throw. The check for a wide left GT on edge, but once the run-out was confirmed, celebrations erupted as they finally gained points on the board.
