Mumbai, May 17 (NationPress) As the Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 auctions approach, U Mumba has revealed the retention of nine vital players and the acquisition of one New Young Player. The team's core remains strong, led by defensive ace Sunil Kumar, who will continue his role as captain, alongside fan-favorite raider Rohit Raghav.
Both players significantly contributed to U Mumba's success last season, combining excellent leadership with outstanding performance on the mat. As the most accomplished captain in Pro Kabaddi League history, Sunil Kumar led the team to the playoffs in Season 11. Rohit Raghav, who transformed from an unsold replacement to a crucial player off the bench, tallied an impressive 68 raid points and 11 tackle points, ensuring his position in the squad and securing his status as a beloved player among fans.
Other retained players include Iranian all-rounder Amirmohammad Zafardanesh (65 raid points, 23 tackle points), promising raider Sathish Kannan, and breakout star Ajit Chouhan, who shone with 185 raid points in his rookie season.
Defenders Lokesh Ghosliya, Deepak Kundu, and Sunny have also been retained for their consistent performances, while Mukilan Shanmugam, previously an NYP, has been promoted to a Retained Young Player (RYP) status, allowing the team to retain him for two additional seasons post-PKL 12.
The squad also welcomes young raider Mukesh Kannan S, a recent addition from Tamil Nadu's domestic kabaddi scene. Known for his strong performances at both the sub-junior and senior state levels, Mukesh brings vibrancy and potential to the U Mumba roster, enhancing their raiding capabilities. He is the only NYP the team has signed this season.
In discussing the retentions, U Mumba CEO Suhail Chandhok stated, “We’ve carefully retained a core group that embodies our determination and vision for long-term success. A leader like Sunil has redefined our team’s identity and laid a strong foundation as one of the league's top defenders.
“With a well-rounded mix of established players and rising stars, we are constructing a competitive and sustainable squad. This upcoming season is about raising our standards, reinforcing our culture, and delivering consistently for our passionate fanbase.”
