New Delhi, Feb 6 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded the nation's political and sports leadership in offering heartfelt congratulations to the India U19 team after they secured their remarkable sixth title by defeating England by 100 runs in Harare.

"India’s cricketing talent shines brightly. I am immensely proud of our U-19 team for bringing home the World Cup. The players have exhibited exceptional skill throughout the tournament. This victory is bound to inspire numerous young athletes as well. Wishing the team all the best in their future endeavors," Modi shared on X.

After opting to bat first, India faced an early setback with Aaron George dismissed for just 9 runs. Nevertheless, Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre formed a solid partnership with a combined score of 142 runs, where Mhatre contributed 53 off 51 balls. Sooryavanshi then took over, scoring an impressive 175 runs off just 80 balls, including 15 fours and 15 sixes. He achieved his century in just 55 balls and reached 150 in 71. Late support from Kanishk Chouhan, who made 37 off 20 balls, propelled India to a total of 411/9.

In their chase, England started positively with strong performances from Ben Dawkins, who scored 66, and Mayes, who added 45. Caleb Falconer notably scored 115 off 67 balls, aiding England's recovery from a challenging 177/7 to reach a total of 311 runs. However, India's bowlers, with RS Ambrish taking 3 wickets for 56 runs and Deepesh Devendran claiming 2 wickets, ensured a decisive victory for India.

Vice-president C.P Radhakrishnan expressed on X, "Heartfelt congratulations to India’s Young Champions on lifting the ICC U19 World Cup trophy in Harare, Zimbabwe. This is a truly historic achievement as India claims the title for a record sixth time. Special commendation to young star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his record-setting innings. I extend my best wishes to captain Ayush Mhatre and the entire team on this proud moment for our nation."

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar was full of praise for the team, especially highlighting the outstanding performances of the 14-year-old opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

With a player like Sooryavanshi, a timeless blockbuster is to be expected! Well done, Vaibhav!" Tendulkar said in a post on his Instagram account.
