Madrid, July 15 (NationPress) After dedicating 18 remarkable years to Real Madrid, Lucas Vazquez has officially said goodbye to the club on Wednesday.
The club announced that a special tribute and farewell event for Vazquez will be held at Real Madrid City, with the club president, Florentino Perez, in attendance on Thursday.
“Dear Madridistas, nearly two decades ago, I arrived at Valdebebas as a 16-year-old brimming with dreams and excitement to don this shirt. Every moment has been a treasure, and over the years, Madrid has become my home. Together, we’ve experienced unforgettable nights, celebrated 23 titles, and forged memories that I will cherish forever.
“Today, after playing over 400 matches, it’s time to bid farewell to the club of my life. I depart with the knowledge that I gave everything. I have always recognized the honor and responsibility that comes with wearing this badge,” Vazquez stated in a video shared by Real Madrid.
Vazquez joined Real Madrid in 2007 at the age of 16, progressing through every level of the club's youth system, from the Under-19s to Castilla. Following a loan spell at Espanyol, he debuted for the Real Madrid first team in September 2015.
“I have relished every match, training session, and trip. This journey has taught me that no one should ever tell you that you can’t achieve something. Although I am leaving Real Madrid, the club will always remain a part of me.
“Wherever I go, I will take pride in having played for the greatest club in the world. Thank you for being part of the most beautiful journey of my life. Hala Madrid, and nothing more,” he concluded.
Since his debut, Vazquez has worn the Los Blancos shirt in 402 matches over a decade, during one of the most successful eras in Real Madrid's history. He has accumulated 23 titles, including five European Cups, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, four La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and four Spanish Super Cups.
“Lucas Vázquez exemplifies the values of Real Madrid, making him one of the most cherished players among our fans. He embodies the hard work, perseverance, humility, and winning spirit necessary for success in this shirt. He has earned the affection and respect of all Real Madrid supporters. Real Madrid is, and will always be, his home,” stated club president Perez.
