Ahmedabad, Feb 28 (NationPress) Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT), the premier table tennis league in India, is set to make its debut in Ahmedabad for Season 6, running from May 29 to June 15.
This season features eight teams comprised of a vibrant mix of top-tier Indian and international table tennis talents vying for the championship, with the defending champions, Goa Challengers, aiming for a remarkable third title.
With its state-of-the-art infrastructure, Ahmedabad is quickly establishing itself as a key player in India’s sports landscape and is preparing to host prestigious events like the 2030 Youth Olympics and the 2036 Olympic Games.
As the city embraces UTT Season 6, fans will have the exhilarating chance to witness elite table tennis action firsthand, as leading Indian and international players engage in captivating matches.
The EKA Arena, known for hosting significant sporting events such as the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup and the 2019 Intercontinental Cup (football), will serve as the perfect venue for the sixth season of UTT.
Being one of India’s longest-running franchise-based sports leagues, UTT features eight teams divided into two groups of four. Each team will play five ties during the league stage, competing against all three teams in their group and two randomly selected teams from the other group.
The top four teams will progress to the knockout rounds, culminating in the grand finale on June 15. Each team comprises six players, including two international stars, and will contest five matches per tie, consisting of two women’s singles, two men’s singles, and a mixed doubles.
Founded by Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani under the auspices of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), UTT has transformed Indian table tennis since its inception in 2017, featuring world-class talent alongside emerging players and enhancing the sport’s profile across the nation.
Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani emphasized the league's dedication to expanding the sport's influence: “Ahmedabad and Gujarat are quickly becoming robust hubs for Olympic sports, particularly as India’s bid to host the Olympics gains traction. Bringing Season 6 here is a significant step towards fostering that growth. By showcasing elite talent in new regions, UTT plays a crucial role in inspiring future generations of players and fans. We are thrilled to deliver the excitement of top-tier table tennis to Ahmedabad and contribute to India’s aspiration of becoming a global sporting powerhouse.”
Kamlesh Mehta, secretary of the Table Tennis Federation of India, stated, “Each season, the league elevates the level of competition, fostering the growth of the sport at both grassroots and elite levels. With its increasing investment in sports infrastructure and a successful history of hosting major events, Ahmedabad is an ideal location for UTT Season 6. As India builds a robust sports culture, introducing premium table tennis to new cities will further enhance the sport’s outreach and development.”
The Goa Challengers triumphed over Dabang Delhi TTC in the previous season, successfully defending their title and making history as the first team to win two titles in the competition.
