Jaipur, April 12 (NationPress) The Rajasthan Royals' newest talent in the IPL, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, encountered England fast bowler and teammate Jofra Archer during practice sessions before their inaugural home game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday.
Having just celebrated his 14th birthday last month, Suryavanshi was picked up by the Jaipur-based team for a remarkable Rs 1.1 crore during last year’s auction in Jeddah. This made him the youngest player ever to secure an IPL contract in the tournament's history.
The Rajasthan Royals shared a video showcasing Suryavanshi's net practice with the caption, “Vaibhav vs Archer. Where else if not the IPL?!”
The left-handed batsman approached Archer with enthusiasm, exhibiting an impressive array of shots including the pull and straight drive. Archer was notably impressed with Suryavanshi's performance in the nets, although the young talent has yet to make his IPL debut.
This 14-year-old had an extraordinary 2024 season, both at the domestic and international levels. He made his first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024, at the age of just 12 years and 284 days. During this debut match, he scored 71 runs off 42 balls against Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, setting the record as the youngest Indian to achieve a List A fifty.
On the international front, Suryavanshi made headlines by recording the fastest youth Test century by an Indian, smashing a stunning 58-ball ton against Australia in Chennai. He also played a vital role in India’s journey to the ACC U19 Asia Cup final, contributing with two significant half-centuries.
Currently, the team led by Sanju Samson is positioned seventh in the points table with two victories in five matches, while RCB holds the fourth spot with six points from five games. Both teams are coming off defeats in their previous games and will be eager to regain winning momentum in the tournament.
