Bengaluru, Jan 18 (NationPress) The opening batsman for Vidarbha, Aman Mokhade, made a remarkable mark in cricket history on Sunday by becoming the third player ever to accumulate 800 runs in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. This achievement unfolded during the final match of the 2025-26 season against Saurashtra at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru.
The 25-year-old right-handed batsman reached this significant milestone in the 11th over of Vidarbha's innings, needing just 19 runs to achieve the record. Mokhade now joins the prestigious company of Prithvi Shaw and Narayan Jagadeesan, both of whom had also surpassed the 800-run threshold in previous Vijay Hazare Trophy seasons.
Mokhade's impressive performance throughout the tournament included an outstanding unbeaten score of 138 in the semifinal against Karnataka earlier in the week. Although he had a chance to break Jagadeesan's record for the most runs in a single season, he was dismissed for 33 runs off 45 balls in the final, concluding the season with a total of 814 runs.
Former Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw was the first to break the 800-run mark, amassing 827 runs for Mumbai in the 2020-21 edition. This record was later eclipsed by Tamil Nadu's Jagadeesan, who scored 830 runs in just eight matches during the 2022-23 season.
Mokhade has also matched the record for the highest number of centuries in a single edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, finishing with five centuries, a record previously held by Jagadeesan and Karun Nair. He is poised to conclude the 2025-26 season as the tournament's leading run-scorer.
Additionally, Mokhade continues to set records at the List A level. He is now the joint-fastest player worldwide to reach 1,000 List A runs, achieving this milestone in only 16 innings, alongside former South African legend Graeme Pollock.
Furthermore, Mokhade holds the record for the fastest Indian to reach this milestone, surpassing the previous joint record held by Devdutt Padikkal and Abhinav Mukund, who both took 17 innings to achieve the same.
