London, Jan 15 (NationPress) England's spin bowlers Adil Rashid and Rehan Ahmed are currently facing unforeseen challenges in obtaining their visas for travel to India for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to commence on February 7.
This visa delay has hindered their ability to travel with the rest of the squad this weekend for a series of warm-up matches against Sri Lanka, leaving their reunion with teammates uncertain. England is scheduled to kick off their T20 World Cup journey on February 8 against Nepal in Navi Mumbai.
According to a report from The Guardian, the ECB is optimistic that the visas will be processed in time for Rashid and Ahmed. However, the timeline for visa approvals remains unclear, prompting the ECB to reach out to the UK government for assistance in speeding up the process.
It’s worth noting that in 2024, Shoaib Bashir had to return home due to visa issues, preventing him from joining the England squad in India for the Test series, while the rest of the team traveled to Hyderabad.
England will participate in three ODIs and three T20Is in Sri Lanka starting January 22, leading up to the T20 World Cup, with Harry Brook at the helm for the Sri Lankan tour and the World Cup.
After their initial match against Nepal at the Wankhede Stadium, England will face the two-time champions, the West Indies (2012 & 2016), on February 11 at the same venue, before heading to Kolkata for a clash against the 2022 champions, England, at the legendary Eden Gardens on February 14. They will conclude their group-stage fixtures against Italy on February 16.
In the last tournament, England was eliminated in the semifinals by the eventual winners, India.
