In the men's singles top five, Wang is accompanied by teammate Lin Shidong, Hugo Calderano from Brazil, Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan, and Truls Moregard from Sweden.
Meanwhile, the women's singles is dominated by China, with Sun leading the list followed closely by Wang Manyu, Kuai Man, Chen Xingtong, and Wang Yidi. Additional Chinese contenders include Liang Jingkun, Xiang Peng, Chen Yuanyu, Zhou Qihao, and Chen Junsong in men's events, along with Chen Yi, Shi Xunyao, and He Zhuojia on the women's side.
The Singapore Smash, being the inaugural WTT Grand Smash tournament of the year, is scheduled from February 19 to March 1, offering a total of 2,000 world ranking points, as reported by Xinhua.
In a parallel event, the WTT Champions Doha, the top seed in men's singles, Lin Shidong, engaged in a gripping five-game match to overcome Benedikt Duda from Germany, while Wang Manyu, the female top seed, advanced to the quarterfinals effortlessly against Prithika Pavade from France.
Lin, after losing the initial game 11-8, rebounded by winning the next two games 11-6, 11-8, only to face a decider which the 12th-ranked German forced by winning 11-6. However, the World No. 2, Lin, clinched the final game 11-6 to secure his place in the quarterfinals.
"It was a challenging match. I was prepared for the difficulties and maintained a positive mindset throughout," stated Lin.
Liang Jingkun triumphed in an all-Chinese contest with scores of 11-7, 11-3, and 11-7 against Chen Yuanyu, setting up a quarterfinal meet with Lin, while Zhou Qihao faced defeat in four games against Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto.
On the women's front, Wang faced minimal resistance from Pavade, winning 11-4, 12-10, 11-6.
"Despite the 3-0 victory, I didn't perform optimally on some shots, particularly losing consecutive points when I was ahead 7-3 in the second game. It's something I need to correct for future matches," Wang commented.
Her fellow players Kuai Man, Chen Xingtong, and Wang Yidi also advanced, whereas Chen Yi became the sole casualty of the Chinese women's team, having squandered a two-game lead before succumbing to Han Ying, a seasoned German player, with scores of 4-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5.
