New Delhi, Sep 29 (NationPress) Rinku, an Indian para-athlete, has made an indelible mark in the history of Indian javelin by clinching a gold medal along with setting a meet record in the men's F46 event during the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday. Rinku's remarkable performance contributed to a 1-2 finish for the home team, with compatriot Sundar Singh Gurjar securing the silver medal.
The evening could have been even more memorable for the hosts if Ajeet Singh had performed better, but he ended up in fourth place.
As the event approached, there were indications that it would be a day to remember, especially for Rinku, who established a new championship record with a throw of 66.37 meters on his fourth attempt. Surrounded by family and friends in a vibrant crowd, the atmosphere was electric.
“I’m immensely grateful to my supporters and family. Their presence motivated me tremendously. It was my day, and everything went perfectly, from the conditions to all other factors,” Rinku expressed with enthusiasm after his gold medal achievement.
Years ago, when Rinku endured the loss of his arm due to a farming accident, his family could hardly imagine witnessing such success and international recognition.
“That day was devastating for us. The entire village of Dhamar, near Rohtak in Haryana, was shrouded in sadness for weeks. It felt like our world had ended, but life has a way of surprising you, as we see his incredible journey today,” shared Wazir Singh Hooda, Rinku's uncle, on Monday.
Rinku’s father was typically a reserved individual, and the family generally kept to themselves. It was only Hooda who was willing to share his reflections on his nephew. “After the tragic accident, Rinku spent time skimming stones in a lake near our home, which led us to enroll him at the Rohtak Stadium when he turned 9,” he reminisced.
When asked about the alternate reality where the accident had never occurred, Hooda paused before responding: “Who can say what might have been? He could have surpassed Neeraj Chopra and emerged as an even bigger star. Conversely, he might not have reached the heights he has today. We are thankful to the divine for his achievements as an athlete.”
Wazir Singh also revealed that the entire village was informed via phone about Rinku's participation, urging them to come to the JLN stadium. It is a three-hour journey to the venue, and those who made it witnessed something truly remarkable, an experience they will cherish forever.
