New Delhi, June 16 (NationPress) With the inaugural Test against England set to commence on June 20 in Leeds, talented left-handed batsman B Sai Sudharsan shared how his fellow Tamil Nadu teammate, off-spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar, has served as a significant source of inspiration throughout his life.
This marks the first occasion that both Sundar and Sudharsan are included in the Test squad for an England tour. "He has always been my inspiration from a young age. I’ve had the chance to compete against him in a few matches, making it a special experience. To be candid, we have greatly admired him. I’ve practiced against Sundar a couple of times; his swift rise to play for the national team has left a lasting impression on me," Sudharsan revealed in a video shared on bcci.tv this Monday.
“After several successful IPL seasons, he made his debut for the national team. Being familiar with him since childhood and playing alongside him has been incredibly motivating. He inspires me to pursue my career in a similar fashion. Hence, he's been my role model since my youth," Sudharsan articulated.
In addition to clinching the Orange Cap in IPL 2025, Sudharsan has made strides in first-class cricket, accumulating 281 runs over two seasons with Surrey, leading to consecutive County Championship victories.
On the other hand, Sundar made a rapid entry into the Indian team in 2017 and has consistently been a part of the Test squad since his recall during last year’s series against New Zealand.
"Every time I watch him on television, there’s so much to learn from his skills and work ethic. Friends and coaches from Chennai have frequently highlighted his career growth. He has made significant progress in the last three to four years, improving every season. He has motivated numerous youngsters, particularly in Chennai, and I hope he continues to inspire children worldwide. I’m genuinely pleased for him," Sundar expressed regarding his admiration for Sudharsan.
India's five-match Test series against England will take place from June 20 to August 4, with matches scheduled at Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord's, Old Trafford, and The Oval. Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India is striving to secure a Test series victory in England for the first time since 2007. This series marks India's first challenge in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.
