New Delhi, July 16 (ANS) Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri shared a message of hope on social media amid uncertainties surrounding the future of the Indian Super League. He urged everyone involved in the Indian football ecosystem to unite and face the challenges together.

The Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), a subsidiary of IMG Reliance that organizes the Indian Super League (ISL), has announced a hold on the upcoming 2025-26 season due to stalled negotiations regarding the extension of its agreement with the All-India Football Federation (AIFF).

FSDL communicated to the participating clubs that the postponement was necessary as they are currently unable to adequately plan, organize, or commercialize the 2025–26 ISL season due to the lack of an agreement concerning the Master Rights Agreement (MRA), which is set to expire on December 8, 2025, with the AIFF.

With the season's commencement indefinitely delayed, clubs found themselves forced to alter their pre-season strategies, leading some ISL teams to withdraw from the prestigious Durand Cup. Chhetri expressed that what initially brought him joy has now turned into concern.

“When I received the notification about a delay in pre-season by two weeks, I must confess it made me smile. I was on vacation, had not been as active as I wanted, and had indulged a bit too much in food. This unexpected time gave me a better chance to get back into shape,” Chhetri shared.

“However, that ‘two weeks’ has now turned into 'indefinitely', and my smile has vanished. I started to worry about my own fitness, thinking I might be running out of time. But conversing with players from different clubs has shown me that my personal concerns aren’t as significant as the bigger picture.”

“The current state of Indian football is quite alarming. I've received numerous messages from players, staff, physiotherapists, and masseurs, not only from my club but others as well. Everyone involved in Indian football feels worried, hurt, and scared about the uncertainty we are facing,” Chhetri posted on ‘X’.

Nevertheless, despite the prevailing uncertainty, Chhetri remained optimistic that the relevant governing bodies would resolve the situation promptly.

“I trust that the think tank and everyone involved in managing the sport are diligently working to get the football season back on track. I am hopeful that a solid resolution will come sooner rather than later.”

“While I may not possess all the answers, my message to everyone connected with Indian football — especially those whose livelihoods depend on it, including players, staff, kitmen, masseurs, medical teams, production crews, and operations staff — is to remain calm. We will navigate this storm together. Let’s support each other, continue training, and strive for improvement. Football must resume soon, and it will,” he concluded.
