St. Johns (Antigua), May 6 (NationPress) - The West Indies have unveiled a formidable 15-player squad for their upcoming ODI tour of Ireland and England, set to commence later this month.

The Caribbean team will head to Europe for a total of six ODIs, featuring three matches against Ireland from May 21-25 and three against England from May 29 to June 3.

Shai Hope, a dynamic batsman, has been appointed captain once again. He will lead a strong contingent of top-order players, including Brandon King, Evin Lewis, and Keacy Carty, alongside emerging talent Jewel Andrew, who impressed during last year's ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup.

Notably, left-hander Shimron Hetmyer is missing from the squad as he is currently participating in the Indian Premier League with the Rajasthan Royals.

The squad comprises many players who were instrumental in the successful home series against England and Bangladesh at the end of 2024.

This tour marks the first engagement of the year for the limited-overs team, providing an important opportunity to strengthen their ODI lineup ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

“These matches are vital as we prepare for the 2027 World Cup, and we are starting to see the team develop consistency following our clean sweep against Bangladesh and the victory over England last year,” said head coach Daren Sammy.

“We anticipate challenging conditions, but we are fostering a culture and mindset that aligns with our cricketing objectives,” he added.

The CWI has also announced changes to the coaching staff for this tour. Former West Indies fast bowler and 2012 World Cup champion Ravi Rampaul will take on the role of bowling coach, succeeding James Franklin.

Additionally, former Ireland allrounder Kevin O’Brien will join the coaching staff for the Ireland leg of the tour.
