Did Hope and Campbell Make the Squad? Roach Omitted for Australia Tests; Anderson Secures First Call-Up!

St John's (Antigua), June 11 (NationPress) - Cricket West Indies (CWI) has revealed its 16-player roster for the upcoming three-match home Test series against Australia, commencing on June 25 at Kensington Oval in Barbados for the prestigious Sir Frank Worrell Trophy, reintroducing Shai Hope and John Campbell.

Leading a rejuvenated squad, Roston Chase, who last participated in a Test match in March 2023 and was recently appointed as the Test captain, heads the lineup which sees ODI vice-captain Brandon King receiving his first Test call-up. However, experienced pacer Kemar Roach has been left out despite being in contention.

This series marks the significant commencement of the 2025-2027 ICC Test Championship Cycle, prompting various modifications to the team that last played in the drawn series against Pakistan earlier this year.

Campbell's return enhances the batting options at the top of the lineup. Following a successful domestic season featuring three centuries, Kevlon Anderson earns his first call-up; additionally, following his recent ODI performances, Keacy Carty makes a return to the squad.

“I’m thrilled about the inclusion of promising talent Kevlon Anderson, who comes in after impressive performances in our domestic leagues to add stability in the top order. Furthermore, Shai Hope's presence is a boon given his reliability in white-ball cricket. Brandon King’s selection aligns with a role we've pinpointed as crucial for elevating our team closer to the top of the rankings,” stated head coach Daren Sammy.

The fast-bowling contingent includes Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph, and Shamar Joseph. Moreover, Johann Layne, a 21-year-old standout from the West Indies Academy with 63 first-class wickets across 17 matches, and Anderson Phillip, who recently achieved a five-wicket haul for West Indies A against South Africa A, have also been summoned for added support. The spin department will be managed by captain Chase and vice-captain Jomel Warrican.

Sammy commended the selection panel for their efforts in pinpointing the right players to initiate this new Test cycle. “We have studied what the top teams worldwide are executing and what is required for us to close the gap. We have charted a course, alongside the group of players and resources, to provide us with the best edge as we aim to elevate our team and compete against the elite globally,” he remarked.
