Kolkata, March 1 (NationPress) The West Indies showcased their batting prowess with significant performances from Roston Chase, alongside a spectacular finish from Jason Holder and Rovman Powell, concluding their innings at a challenging 195/4 against India at Eden Gardens on Sunday. This match marked a crucial Super Eights showdown in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where both teams needed a victory.

Opting to bat first after India decided to field, the West Indies started steadily with Shai Hope and Chase establishing the tournament's first 50-plus opening partnership against India. Their partnership laid a solid groundwork, despite the initial probing by Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya.

Hope managed to score a few boundaries but struggled to maintain the pace, eventually falling for 32 runs off 33 balls when Varun Chakaravarthy delivered a sneaky ball that disrupted his defense, breaking the 66-run partnership. With the score at 103/3, India sensed an opportunity to tighten their hold, and Hardik Pandya strengthened their position by sending Sherfane Rutherford back for 14 runs. However, an explosive counterattack ensued.

Holder and Powell shifted the momentum dramatically, particularly targeting Arshdeep Singh in the 16th over, which yielded 24 runs, including two massive sixes and a boundary. Holder's enormous six off Bumrah in the last over epitomized the fearless attitude of the Caribbean team, even as Bumrah concluded with commendable figures of 2/36.

With 70 runs amassed in the final five overs, West Indies transformed what appeared to be a competitive total into a daunting one. While India's bowlers, led by Bumrah, managed to secure breakthroughs at critical moments, their fielding errors and inability to counter the late onslaught allowed the West Indies to seize the day.
