New Delhi, June 12 (NationPress) The Cricket West Indies (CWI) revealed on Thursday that the senior men's team is set to embark on a historic journey, engaging in its inaugural bilateral T20I series against Nepal in Sharjah later this year. CWI noted that the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will host the series, aimed at gearing up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, which is scheduled for later this year.

The momentous three-match T20I series between the West Indies and Nepal is scheduled for September 27, 28, and 30, respectively.

“This series transcends typical international matches—it celebrates the global growth of cricket and embodies the essence of what the sport signifies: pride, purpose, and the strength of unity. As a full-member nation, we feel a duty to assist in the evolution of cricket beyond our borders,” said CWI's representative.

“Supporting Nepal during this critical phase in their cricketing journey not only fosters the sport at grassroots and international levels but also emphasizes the profound pride and honor tied to representing our nation and donning our national colors.”

“We stand proudly with Nepal at this pivotal moment in their history and eagerly anticipate thrilling and competitive cricket in Sharjah,” stated CWI CEO Chris Dehring. CWI also expressed appreciation towards CAN and the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) for their invaluable collaboration in organizing this three-match T20I series.

In the past, the West Indies had dispatched its 'A' team to Nepal for a tour in April and May 2024, participating in five T20 matches at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. This tour was historic as it was the first-ever visit by any West Indies cricket team to Nepal, which later made its Men’s T20 World Cup debut in June 2024.

Nepal successfully qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup from the Asian Qualifiers alongside Oman. The Cricket Association of Nepal has held associate member status with ODI recognition from the International Cricket Council since 1988.

Nepal's T20I journey began against Hong Kong at Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on March 16, 2014. Since then, they have participated in 99 matches, boasting a win/loss record of 55/39.
