Western India Squash Slam 2024: Anahat Singh and Ameeshenraj Chandaran Crowned Champions

Mumbai, Dec 22 (NationPress) Defending champion and India’s top contender Anahat Singh demonstrated her strength by overcoming the top-seeded player Akanksha Salunkhe to capture the Western India Slam 2024, a USD 9,000 prize-money Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challenger event, in the women’s singles category at the Cricket Club of India courts in Mumbai on Sunday.
The second seed Anahat triumphed over Akanksha with a decisive score of 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 11-8) in a quick 25 minutes. This victory marks the 16-year-old's ninth PSA Challenger title of the year, representing her first win against Akanksha Salunkhe, who is ranked world No. 70, in a PSA event. In their last meeting during the ACE Challenger Tour 12k quarter-finals earlier this year, Akanksha had bested the young talent.
In the men’s singles final, second seed Ameeshenraj Chandaran from Malaysia overcame the top seed Viktor Byrtus from the Czech Republic with a score of 3-1 (15-13, 6-11, 11-5, and 11-3) after a challenging 60-minute match.
