New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) Sanjay Bangar, the former batting coach of India, emphasized that precise execution was the cornerstone of Team India’s bowling performance following their seven-wicket triumph over South Africa at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala.
With this victory, India has taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match T20I series against the Proteas, where the conditions were notably advantageous for bowlers.
Bangar pointed out how India’s fast bowlers effectively utilized the pitch, which is typically recognized as a batter-friendly surface, by delivering sharp initial spells and applying consistent pressure on the visiting team throughout the innings.
“The effort from the Indian bowlers was truly commendable. On a pitch renowned as a batter’s paradise, where you’d expect to face challenges, they ensured they claimed wickets with the new ball while swinging it in both directions; both Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana were exceptional. This has been their hallmark whenever they have performed well; they have posed significant challenges to most top-order batsmen,” Bangar stated on JioStar.
“Getting Reeza Hendricks out early was a fantastic setup by Arshdeep, followed by Harshit Rana’s impressive delivery—quick and sharp through the air, which effectively dismantled the middle order. The support bowling from Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube was also outstanding. Overall, the Indian bowlers brilliantly capitalized on whatever was available for seamers,” he added.
India’s bowling attack came together effectively after the hosts opted to bowl first, leading to South Africa being bowled out for 117 runs in their allotted 20 overs, with Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, and Kuldeep Yadav each taking two wickets.
Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube also contributed with one wicket each.
After losing three wickets during the powerplay and being reduced to 30/4 in just seven overs, South Africa struggled to recover, despite Aiden Markram scoring 61 runs.
In response, India comfortably chased down the target with 25 balls to spare, led by Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 35 runs off 18 balls during the powerplay.
Although Suryakumar Yadav (12) was dismissed cheaply, Shubman Gill (28) and Tilak Varma (25) made valuable contributions during India’s chase.
Ultimately, it was Abhishek’s early assault, which included three fours and as many sixes, that kept the chase firmly under control, enabling the hosts to secure an easy victory.
