Is Pat Cummins Re-signing with Sydney Thunder for BBL 15 a Game Changer?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Sydney, Dec 16 (NationPress) Australia's captain Pat Cummins has officially rejoined the Sydney Thunder as a CA marquee supplementary player for the Big Bash League (BBL) 15.
The accomplished 32-year-old fast bowler was also part of the Thunder's marquee supplementary roster last year, although he hasn't participated in the BBL since February 2019.
As the 19th supplementary player, this international sensation remains outside the 18-player squad but could be activated if he becomes available, as stated by the Thunder.
Cummins has a successful history with Thunder, being a member of the championship-winning team in BBL|05. He was contracted with the club from BBL 5 through BBL 9, before his international commitments took precedence.
One of his most remarkable performances was taking 2 for 21 against the Brisbane Heat in 2014, contributing to a 56-run win for Thunder.
Regarding the upcoming season, Cummins expressed, “Being with Thunder is very significant for me, having been raised in Western Sydney. Although my time on the field will be limited due to my focus on the Ashes, I'm eager to support the team during what promises to be an exhilarating summer.
“I can already sense the winning attitude that David Warner is instilling within the squad. We nearly succeeded last year, and I'm confident we can go further this time – we possess both experience and youthful talent to achieve this.
“A heartfelt thanks to our Thunder Nation for your unwavering support – I look forward to seeing you at the games this season.”
Cummins, who has yet to play during this home international summer, is poised to captain Australia in the third Test starting Wednesday, following recovery from a back stress injury.
While his immediate priority is securing the Ashes, Cummins remains open to playing for the Thunder ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
The Thunder’s BBL 15 journey commences on Tuesday in Hobart, facing a rematch of the BBL 14 final against the Hurricanes. They will subsequently return to Engei Stadium for the much-anticipated Sydney Smash on December 20.
