Liverpool, Aug 20 (NationPress) Leanne Kiernan has officially extended her contract with Liverpool FC Women. The talented Irish striker finalized the agreement at the AXA Melwood Training Centre on Wednesday.
With this new contract, the club's second-leading scorer in the Women's Super League era embarks on her fifth season with the Reds.
"It feels incredible, and I’m really looking forward to getting back on the pitch. My family is thrilled, honestly. This place feels like a second home for them as much as it does for me, and they truly enjoy their time here. I can genuinely see myself living in Liverpool even after my playing days are over. They're really having a great time visiting me," Kiernan expressed to Liverpoolfc.com.
The 26-year-old joined the team in the summer of 2021, scoring 14 goals to help clinch the FA Women's Championship in her debut season. Although a serious ankle injury affected her playing time during Liverpool's return to the top division, Kiernan managed to make 19 and 22 appearances in the subsequent seasons.
She has found the net 23 times as a Red, with only Natasha Dowie scoring more for the club since the WSL's inception in 2011.
"One of the most vital aspects is the fans at any club. Without them, it’s tough to play and reignite that excitement. They have been tremendously supportive, especially during my last four years. Hearing your name chanted and having individual songs is special. Liverpool truly has the best fans in the world," Kiernan noted.
