New Delhi, Aug 20 (NationPress) The Women’s Delhi Premier League (WDPL) was filled with excitement as the Central Delhi Queens narrowly defeated the North Delhi Strikers by one wicket at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. In pursuit of 118 runs for triumph, the Queens found themselves in a precarious position before showcasing remarkable composure in the final over.

The chase commenced poorly, with the Queens reeling at 43/4, as the Strikers’ bowlers consistently made breakthroughs. Monika emerged as the standout batter, keeping hope alive with a resilient 36 off 39 balls. However, her unfortunate run-out added pressure, leaving the lower order to chase down the remaining runs.

As the match reached its climax, the Queens required 14 runs from the final over with only two wickets in hand. They secured 12 runs off the first five balls before Parunika Sisodia was stumped on a wide delivery from Nazma.

With only two runs needed from two balls, tension filled the stadium. Priya Mishra, the last batter, lofted the ball toward mid-on, where the fielder dropped a crucial catch, allowing the ball to race to the boundary and sealing a thrilling victory for the Queens with just one ball remaining.

For the Strikers, Nazma was the star performer with the ball, claiming 3 for 24 in 3.5 overs.

Earlier, the North Delhi Strikers had set a modest target of 117/4 in 20 overs. They recovered from a shaky 53/4 with a steady, unbeaten 64-run partnership between Nazma (40 off 30) and Laxmi Yadav (28 off 40). Ayushi Soni also contributed with a brisk 27 off 19. This victory has propelled the Central Delhi Queens into the finals.

With this win, the Queens finish the points table with four points from two victories, while the South Delhi Superstarz Women sit in second place with one win and one no result.
