The 13-year-old Tanishka stunned the seasoned Maria Rony with a score of 3-1 (11-2, 8-11, 11-7, 11-4) in the second qualifying round. Meanwhile, Naisha, who trains at the NSCI-UTT Academy in Mumbai, triumphed over wildcard participant Palak Ghia with a clean sweep of 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-6), securing her spot in the final qualifying round of this prestigious event, which features an increased prize pool of USD 300,000.
Earlier, Gungun Sahu caused an upset by defeating the higher-ranked Hardee Patel 3-1 (12-10, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10) to advance to the final round of qualifying.
In the men’s singles, India’s Umesh Kumar made a strong comeback from a game down to win against Nepal’s Rajiv Chikanbanjar, finishing 3-1 (6-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-8) and progressing to the third qualifying round.
