Gurugram, Sep 24 (NationPress) Amateur Zara Anand showcased an impressive round of 2-under 70, the best of the day and one of just two rounds under par, propelling her to the top after 36 holes in the Rs. 23 lakh 13th Leg of the Women’s Professional Golf Tour (WPGT) held at DLF Golf and Country Club.
Zara, who is set to join an American university on a golf scholarship later this year, now stands at even par 144 after two rounds. After carding 74 on day one, she excelled with five birdies and three bogeys.
She has taken the lead over first-round leader Lavanya Jadon (73-72), who is just one stroke behind going into the final round. Lavanya recorded three birdies, two of which came in the opening three holes, but faced challenges on the back nine with all her bogeys.
Zara, who ranked seventh in the Queen Sirikit Cup in Japan earlier this year, continues to lead the amateur group, with four amateurs now positioned in the Top-10.
Veteran golfer Amandeep Drall, a former runner-up at the Hero Women’s Indian Open, added a 73 to her first round 74, placing her third at 3-over 147. Astha Madan (75-74) follows in fourth place. Amandeep achieved two birdies on the front nine against three bogeys.
Astha started with a birdie but faced a double bogey early on; however, she managed to secure two more birdies and parred the remaining holes in her next 16. Promising amateurs Ananyaa Sood (76-74) and Kriti Chowhan (76-74) are tied for fifth at 6-over 150.
Vani Kapoor, who has four wins this season, struggled to regain her form, finishing with a 76 after a first-round 75, now tied for seventh with Jahaanvie Walia (76-75). Gaurika Bishnoi (77-75) finds herself tied with two amateurs, Mannat Brar (76-76) and Lavanya Gupta (75-77) for tenth place.
The cut was set at 164, with 31 players qualifying for the final round.
