Jamal (61-62), who was the leader after the first round by a single stroke and has maintained a bogey-free performance throughout the tournament, now boasts a remarkable total of 17-under 123 as of Wednesday. Following closely is Akshay Sharma from Chandigarh (62-64), who recorded a 64 to remain in second place for the second consecutive day, totaling 14-under 126.
Another Chandigarh competitor, Angad Cheema (66-62), finished the day in third position at 12-under 128, matching the day's best score of 62, which was also achieved by Jamal.
Chandarjeet Yadav, hailing from Chandimandir, made history by achieving the first-ever hole-in-one on a Par-4 during the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). His drive on the 369-yard-long Par-4 14th found the hole. Yadav posted a score of 71, totaling one-over 141, narrowly missing the cut by one shot.
The cut was set at even-par 140, with fifty-five professionals making it through.
At 40 years old, Jamal Hossain, starting from the 10th tee on Day Two, continued his excellent form from Round One, collecting two birdies and an eagle on the back nine. His eagle-two on the Par-4 15th came after his tee shot struck the flagstick and landed near the hole. Currently sitting 14th on the PGTI Order of Merit, he then added four more birdies on the front nine, thanks to his exceptional chipping and putting skills.
Jamal remarked, “I scored lower in the first round, but I felt I played even better today. Right after Chandarjeet made a hole-in-one on a Par-4, I came close to achieving the same on the 15th. My round really took off after that eagle.”
“I missed a few putts, but I’m pleased with my driving and tee shots. I just need to keep this momentum going over the next two days to finally clinch a victory this year after coming so close several times.”
Akshay Sharma also enjoyed a flawless day, securing two birdies on the front nine and four more on the back nine. Like Jamal, he reached the Par-4 15th green, which led to a birdie for him. Akshay showed off his excellent chipping and putting skills, which saved him when he missed the greens.
Meanwhile, Arjun Prasad from Delhi, ranked second in the PGTI merit list, shot a 65 to tie for eighth at six-under 134. Local professionals Mohd Azhar (68) and Vishesh Sharma (70) were tied in 35th place at two-under 138.
