Vishwa Samudra Open: Ajeetesh Sandhu posts a consistent 69 to secure a two-shot advantage

New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) Ajeetesh Sandhu, who started the day with a three-shot lead, showcased his consistency in round three by posting a steady three-under 69, ensuring he stays ahead by two strokes in the INR 2 crore Vishwa Samudra Open 2024 at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) on Thursday. The golfer from Chandigarh has a 54-hole total of 11-under 205.

Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain recorded the best score of the day with a 67, propelling him to second place at nine-under 207.

With a significant gap over the rest of the competitors, it appears to be a two-player contest between Ajeetesh (69-67-69) and Jamal (67-73-67) as they head into the final round.

M. Dharma from Bengaluru, shooting a 71, sits in a distant third at four under 212, while Chandigarh's Yuvraj Sandhu (71) and Delhi's Rashid Khan (72) are tied for fourth at three under 213.

Sandhu kicked off the day positively with a birdie on the second hole, but faced challenges with bogeys on the eighth and ninth. After encountering difficulties on the ninth, he managed to recover with a tricky 10-foot bogey conversion, which could have been much worse.

Following this, Sandhu made an eight-foot birdie on the 10th, marking the start of his comeback. He capitalized on the two remaining par-5 holes, the 14th and 18th, with birdies, and also added another birdie from a short-range putt on the 15th.

Jamal Hossain, who triumphed in the previous PGTI event held in Assam last month, returned to contention with a 67 after starting the day four shots behind the leader. His exceptional ball-striking led to birdies on three of the four par-5 holes, alongside three additional birdies and a single bogey.

SSP Chawrasia (73) is tied for eighth place at even-par 216, while PGTI ranking leader Veer Ahlawat (75) is tied for 17th at three-over 219.
