Leading the PGTI Order of Merit and last week's champion, Sandhu (63-67) was the overnight leader by one shot, boosting his total to 12-under 130 at the halfway mark.
Olympian and golfer from Pune, Udayan Mane (67-65), posted the day's best score of 65, advancing eight spots to tie for second place at 10-under 132. Meanwhile, Nepal's Subash Tamang (64-68) remained in a tie for second after a 68 in the second round.
The cut was set at one-over 143, allowing fifty-seven professionals and one amateur to progress. Veer Ganapathy, a teenager based in Bengaluru, was the only amateur to make the cut, tying for 21st at a total of three-under 139.
Having secured three victories this season on the PGTI, Sandhu experienced a mixed front-nine, scoring three birdies along with three bogeys. However, the 28-year-old international winner excelled on the back nine, recording four birdies to surge ahead. He notably drove the Par-4 15th green, setting up a two-putt for birdie.
Reflecting on his performance, Sandhu stated, “I had a late finish in round one and a long travel back to my hotel. I struggled to get quality sleep last night, impacting my physical state today. I started slower than I had hoped, needing time to recover, but I'm pleased I managed to hold on and achieve a respectable score.”
On Day Two, Udayan Mane made significant strides with an eagle and seven birdies, offset by three bogeys. The former PGTI Order of Merit champion nearly achieved a hole-in-one on the 14th, where his drive landed just an inch from the hole. He also drove the green on the 15th for an eagle and on the 13th for a birdie.
Subash Tamang, the 2023 All India Amateur champion, tied for second alongside Mane, combining six birdies with three bogeys in his round.
