Kolkata, Feb 14 (NationPress) Chandigarh’s Yuvraj Sandhu maintained his successful streak at Tollygunge Club by winning the INR 1 crore PGTI Players Championship 2025 by two strokes on Friday. Yuvraj (63-61-68-68), who led throughout the event, recorded a final-round score of two-under 68 to secure a wire-to-wire victory with a total score of 20-under 260. The 27-year-old golfer claimed his second title at Tollygunge Club, where he previously triumphed in 2022.

Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain (65-62-66-69), who challenged Yuvraj on the back-nine, finished as the runner-up with a total of 18-under 262 after scoring 69 in the final round.

Bengaluru’s Rahil Gangjee, originally from Kolkata, carded a 70 on Day Four to secure third place at 14-under 266. Dhruv Sheoran from Gurugram recorded the day’s best score of 63, climbing 26 spots to finish tied for fifth at 12-under 268. The legendary SSP Chawrasia (68) was the top Kolkata-based professional, placing tied eighth at 11-under 269.

The only amateur to make the cut, 16-year-old Anshul Mishra, won the best amateur trophy, finishing tied 24th at five-under 275.

With a narrow one-shot lead heading into the final round, Yuvraj extended his advantage with a strong front-nine, securing three birdies between eight and twelve feet, offset by a lone bogey.

Yuvraj appeared to be on course for victory after making a birdie on the 11th and a solid par save on the 12th. However, he faced some late pressure when he found the hazard on the 15th and dropped a bogey, while Jamal capitalized with two birdies to narrow the gap to one stroke. Nevertheless, Yuvraj responded with a crucial 12-foot birdie on the 16th, regaining a two-shot lead.

Despite a bogey on the final hole, Sandhu celebrated his seventh PGTI title and his overall 10th professional win, taking home a purse of INR 15 lakh. He now tops the 2025 PGTI Order of Merit.

Reflecting on his performance, Yuvraj stated, “It was another up-and-down day for me, but the work I did with my mental coach Rabia Gill recently really paid off, as I was in control and remained calm throughout the week.

“The tough par save on the 12th was a momentum-changer for me, and the long birdie on the 16th was key to extending my lead.”

“Jamal challenged me over the last 36 holes, but my comfort level at Tolly helped me perform my best. I appreciate the warmth and food at this club. My previous win here at Tolly helped propel my career, and I hope this victory does the same before heading to the Asian Tour,” he concluded.

Jamal Hossain, also a former champion at Tollygunge, made a birdie and a double-bogey on the front nine but surged as a contender with birdies on the 11th, 13th, and 15th. However, he struggled to maintain the momentum, managing only two pars and a bogey to finish.
