Mysuru, Aug 15 (NationPress) Yuvraj Sandhu demonstrated his prowess at the ₹1 crore Mysuru Open 2025 golf tournament on Friday, achieving a commanding eight-shot victory, which marks his third title of the season and strengthens his position at the pinnacle of the PGTI Order of Merit.
The Chandigarh native (61-65-62-61) was the wire-to-wire champion, concluding the tournament with an impressive final round of nine-under 61, equaling his tournament low from Round One, and wrapping up the week with a remarkable total of 31-under 249 in his debut at the exquisite Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club (JWGC).
The 28-year-old international victor received a winner's cheque of ₹15 lakh, raising his season's earnings to ₹73,67,200, giving him a substantial lead of over ₹12 lakh in the PGTI Order of Merit. He also took home a beautiful new trophy depicting the iconic Mysore Palace, the largest landmark in Mysuru.
Due to the wet conditions preceding the event, the preferred lie rule was in effect throughout the week, which means that Sandhu's tournament total, the lowest in PGTI history, will unfortunately not be recognized as an official PGTI record.
Bangladesh's Jamal Hossain (62-65-64-66) finished in second place with a total of 23-under 257 after a final round of 66.
Delhi's Arjun Prasad (66-62-64-66) secured third place at 22-under 258, following a final round of 66. As a result, Arjun, a consistently strong performer this season with eight top-10 finishes, moved up from third to second place in the PGTI money list with earnings of ₹61,12,549.
Sandhu, who led from the first round to the finish, started the final day with a comfortable three-shot lead. He further solidified his position on the fourth day with five birdies on the front nine. His drive on the Par-4 third hole found the green, and he expertly chipped in for a tap-in on the following two holes.
On the back nine, Sandhu continued his impressive performance by adding four more birdies with some remarkable tee shots and his second chip-in of the day on the 11th hole.
Sandhu, who previously won the first two events of the 2025 PGTI season, stated, "Winning with a score of 31-under and by such a large margin is a dream for every professional golfer. I want to express my gratitude to my entire team for their support. I dedicate this win to my grandmother, who passed away about two months ago, and to my caddie Sonu, who did an exceptional job this week.
"My performance this week reflected the hard work I put in during the off-season. It feels rewarding when all that effort pays off. I’m excited to maintain this form as the season progresses.
"I had a friendly wager with my caddie that I would break my previous PGTI record of 10-under with an 11-under score today. Unfortunately, I fell short, but it motivated me throughout the round," he added.
Jamal Hossain, who started the day in second place, made six birdies but struggled to catch up with the unstoppable Sandhu due to an early double-bogey.
Dhruv Bopanna from Mysuru had the best finish among local professionals, concluding with a total of three-under 277, placing him in a tied 53rd position.
