Ahmedabad, March 5 (NationPress) Chandigarh golfer Harendra Gupta has claimed the halfway lead with an impressive second-round score of five-under 67 during the INR 1 crore Ahmedabad Open 2025 at the Kensville Golf & Country Club on Wednesday. The 40-year-old Gupta (70-67), a holder of 10 titles, achieved the best score of the day in Round Two, totaling seven-under 137 and rising two spots from his previous tied third position. He currently leads the field by a single shot.
Sri Lankan N. Thangaraja (65-73), the overnight leader, recorded a 73 on Wednesday, dropping to second place at six-under 138. Yashas Chandra from Mysuru (70) and Italy’s Michele Ortolani (74) are tied for third place at two-under 142.
The cut was set at seven over 151, with fifty-six professionals making the cut.
Gupta ascended the leaderboard early in his round due to his exceptional putting, including four birdies from distances of six to ten feet on the first 13 holes. He further solidified his position by sinking a 40-footer for an eagle on the Par-5 14th. Although he encountered a double-bogey on the 15th, he minimized the setback with a birdie on the 17th.
"I’m motivated to perform well this week as I’ve struggled at Kensville in the past. My ball-striking has been excellent over the first two days, and I feel like I've regained my previous putting touch. Navigating the windy conditions here will be crucial moving forward," Gupta remarked.
N. Thangaraja experienced a challenging day with two birdies and three bogeys, particularly struggling with short putts. Varun Parikh (73) was the only Ahmedabad-based player to make the cut, finishing tied for 10th place at two-over 146.
Thangaraja took the lead in Round One with a remarkable seven-under 65, while Michele Ortolani was positioned second with a score of four-under 68.
Thangaraja, who secured third place at last week's PGTI event in Raipur, continued his strong performance on Tuesday. Starting from the 10th tee, he made an eagle and two birdies, punctuated by a bogey on the back-nine, followed by an impressive front nine with four birdies.
