Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Sep 24 (NationPress) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, currently in Patna for the CWC meeting, has sharply criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for disregarding the rights of the Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
Rahul Gandhi vowed to unveil significant details about the existing NDA government and the Election Commission by "making another major revelation" aimed at safeguarding voters' rights.
Speaking at the Extremely Backward Dialogue Conference in Patna, he assured comprehensive engagement and constitutional safeguards for all demographics.
He highlighted that the plan was developed following extensive discussions with the impacted communities. A 10-point proposal was presented in collaboration with leaders from the INDIA bloc, such as Tejashwi Yadav, Mukesh Sahani, and Dipankar Bhattacharya.
“These 10 visions were crafted based on consultations with community members. Every section will receive appropriate participation, and their rights will no longer be overlooked,” Rahul Gandhi stated.
The Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition alleged that these communities had been exploited for votes over the past 20 years and subsequently neglected.
“For two decades, their rights have been ignored. Our government will guarantee that every community receives the rights enshrined in the Constitution,” he asserted.
He mentioned that during the Voter Adhikar Yatra, which spanned several districts in Bihar, the youth were informed that their constitutional rights were at risk.
“We have reached out to the youth who actively took part in the march and thwarted attempts by the BJP to alter voter lists,” he added.
The former Congress president also underscored the necessity for social justice and fair representation for backward communities in Bihar.
He advocated for a nationwide caste-based census to accurately gauge the number of backward classes and to eliminate the current 50% reservation cap.
“We aim to uncover the true figures of backward classes and secure their rightful representation,” he stated.
Pointing out the restrictions on caste-based protests in Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi asserted that the Congress' vision aims to empower these communities with genuine involvement in governance.
This includes a 50% reservation in government contracts exceeding Rs 25 crore, which he claimed would directly benefit backward communities.
He reiterated that this vision is historic and was formulated after engaging with community members to ensure their priorities are taken into account.
“These ideas were not created in isolation; they emerged from extensive dialogues with the community members,” he noted.
Rahul Gandhi also pledged that under a Grand Alliance government, every segment of society would receive fair involvement and constitutional rights.
