The Bharuch Additional District and Sessions Court found both defendants—Malek Shirin Bano, aged 40, and Firoj Khan Pathan, aged 48—guilty and sentenced them to 15 years of RI along with financial penalties under the NDPS Act, 1985 (as amended).
As reported by the NCB, Malek Shirin Bano, residing in Gujarat’s Bharuch, and Firoj Khan Pathan from Dariyapur in Ahmedabad were apprehended at the Bharuch Railway Station on October 12, 2019, upon their arrival on the Paschim Express.
“The two individuals were discovered in conscious and exclusive possession of 3.983 kg of charas, which was confiscated following a proper panchnama conducted in the presence of independent witnesses,” the NCB stated.
A formal complaint was lodged before the Bharuch Additional District and Sessions Court on April 7, 2020, for offenses under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C), and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The NCB highlighted that the thorough investigation and committed prosecution by their Ahmedabad Zonal Unit have successfully ensured justice, safeguarding communities from the serious repercussions of drug abuse.
In a separate case, another Special Court in Ahmedabad sentenced a different drug trafficker to 12 years of RI and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh in a mephedrone smuggling case from 2023, according to an NCB official on Monday.
An Additional Sessions Judge in Ahmedabad convicted Mohammad Irfan Usmangani Saiyad, who resides in Kalupur, Ahmedabad, in this instance.
This case involved the seizure of 155 grams of mephedrone and 43 grams of charas at the Kalupur Railway Station in February 2023, leading to the arrest of the drug trafficker.
