New Delhi, July 22 (NationPress) Over 1.6 crore individuals have received training under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in the past decade, with 1.29 crore of them achieving certification as of June 30.
The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Jayant Chaudhary, disclosed in a written statement to the Lok Sabha that an additional 1.74 crore candidates have been trained through other initiatives of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
“The NSDC has enabled the certification of over 2.32 lakh trainers through various Awarding Bodies. The ratio of trainers to beneficiaries differs based on training type, batch size, sector standards, and geographical factors,” informed the minister.
For the execution of PMKVY, the MSDE allocated Rs 1,538.29 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Under the latest iteration, PMKVY 4.0, training is provided at accredited and affiliated Training Centres (TCs), with their performance monitored via both physical and virtual methods. Legal measures such as filing FIRs, blacklisting, suspending, and financial recovery are enforced against non-compliant TCs.
The PMKVY program is operational nationwide, extending its benefits to all societal segments, including marginalized communities.
To foster inclusivity, efforts are focused on mobilizing candidates from marginalized backgrounds through targeted outreach, industry-relevant curricula, and the introduction of innovative courses to reduce the digital divide.
“Moreover, to guarantee equitable skill development, accessibility is enhanced by ensuring a geographic spread of training centres across districts, with particular initiatives for Aspirational and Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas,” the minister highlighted.
Through PMKVY, the MSDE has launched numerous strategic initiatives aimed at boosting youth employability via market-oriented skill training.
A thorough assessment of job demand is conducted using insights from regular skill gap analyses at national, state, and district levels, along with District Skill Development Plans (DSDPs) and industry-specific data. These efforts align with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) to ensure that the curriculum meets the changing market needs and future workforce demands.
The PMKVY 4.0 initiative has introduced job roles in cutting-edge fields like Artificial Intelligence, Electric Vehicles, Robotics, 5G, and Data Analytics to improve employability in emerging sectors.
