Quetta, Jan 15 (NationPress) A total of 18 Baloch individuals have reportedly been forcibly disappeared during operations conducted by the Pakistani armed forces in the past two weeks, as stated by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC).

The BYC reported that 11 individuals went missing from Kech's Hothabad and 7 from Gwadar's Panwan Jiwani.

This alarming trend of enforced disappearances has been described as a pattern of collective punishment against the Baloch community, involving raids on homes and targeted operations.

In a statement shared on X, the BYC declared, "Pakistan’s security forces have forcibly taken at least 18 Baloch civilians over the last two weeks, with 11 from Hothabad, Kech, and 7 from Panwan Jiwani, Gwadar. These disappearances were executed through coordinated home raids and targeted operations, highlighting a clear pattern of collective punishment against the Baloch nation."

On January 7, 2026, security forces executed military operations in Hothabad, Kech, forcibly taking 11 individuals from their residences around 12:00 PM. The victims included: Hasrat Hasil (20, Air Force personnel), Kashif Ayuob (22, shopkeeper), Riaz Yaqoob (36, shopkeeper), Dad Karim (24), Jalil Ahmed (22, driver), Sageer Illahi (23, student), Salam (25, shopkeeper), Fuzail Rafiq (22, student), Siraj Barkat (20, student), Riaz Hassan (32, Labourer in Qatar), and Sajjad Barkat (22, Labourer in Qatar)."

The BYC noted that Riaz Hassan and Sajjad Barkat were released on January 10, yet the remaining nine individuals remain in illegal custody, with no information about their current locations.

The group further highlighted that security forces have escalated oppression in Gwadar's Panwan Jiwani area from December 25 to January 7, particularly targeting the local fishing community. Seven fishermen were reported missing: Jahangir (25), Shamsuddin (18), Shabbir (25), Sameed (25), Rizwan (26), Asif (35), and Isra (22).

These enforced disappearances were accompanied by violent home raids, threats against families, and property destruction, instilling fear throughout entire communities. The targeted individuals are ordinary civilians whose only apparent “crime” is their Baloch identity. Such actions represent serious violations of fundamental human rights and contravene international legal norms," the BYC posted on X.

"The Baloch Yakjehti Committee calls for the immediate and safe release of all those forcibly taken and urges national and international human rights organizations, the United Nations, and the global community to take urgent action and ensure accountability," they added.

Balochistan continues to endure relentless atrocities at the hands of Pakistani authorities, who endorse death squads in the region to carry out enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and unlawful detentions of Baloch individuals.

Point of View

It is crucial to highlight the ongoing situation in Balochistan. The reported forced disappearances raise serious concerns regarding human rights and the treatment of the Baloch people. It is vital for the nation to remain aware of these issues and call for accountability from authorities.
