Raipur/Sakti, April 14 (NationPress) An alarming boiler tube explosion occurred at the Vedanta Power Plant in Singhitaria village, located in the Sakti district of Chhattisgarh, causing widespread panic and chaos on Tuesday. According to officials, the catastrophic incident has resulted in the tragic deaths of at least nine workers and left over 20 others critically injured.

Sakti Superintendent of Police (SP) Praful Thakur confirmed the fatalities and injuries, indicating that the situation remains dire as rescue operations are still underway, with numerous laborers possibly trapped within the plant.

Chhattisgarh's Industry and Commerce Minister, Lakhan Lal Dewangan, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life in this industrial mishap, stating on his official X account, "The news of the workers' deaths due to an industrial accident at the Vedanta plant in Sakti district is profoundly distressing. Given the gravity of the situation, I have promptly instructed local administrative and labor officials to take necessary actions. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured workers."

The explosion occurred around 2 p.m. when approximately 40 to 50 laborers were on duty, leading to a chaotic stampede as employees rushed to evacuate the premises.

Initial investigations indicate that the blast resulted from a boiler tube burst, but definitive causes are yet to be determined officially.

SP Praful Thakur initially reported, "Four workers have died, and 15 others have sustained injuries," with the death toll likely to increase as rescue teams continue their efforts to extricate trapped individuals.

Many of the injured have suffered severe burn injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care, with some referred to advanced medical facilities, including Jindal Fortis Hospital in Raigarh.

Upon learning of the explosion, police, fire brigade personnel, and district administration teams swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue and relief operations.

Local officials are actively overseeing the clearance of debris and efforts to reach affected areas within the plant.
