New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) A central investigative team, which includes officials from the Department of Industrial Safety and Boiler Inspectors, is set to initiate an inquiry into the tragic accident at the Vedanta power plant located in Dabhra tehsil of Sakti district, Chhattisgarh. This incident resulted in the loss of numerous workers' lives, while many others suffered serious injuries.

Reports indicate that the team is scheduled to arrive in Sakti from Delhi on Saturday to commence the investigation.

This intervention comes after a report was submitted by the State Boiler Inspector, prompting the central authorities to take action, as per an NDTV report.

In parallel, the Chhattisgarh government has also mandated an investigation into the incident, appointing the Bilaspur Divisional Commissioner as the inquiry officer.

The unfortunate event transpired on April 14 in Boiler Unit-1 of the plant due to a technical malfunction in the joint of a water supply pipe linked to a steam pipeline. Reports suggest that the death toll from the boiler explosion has climbed to 20, while 15 workers are currently receiving treatment for their injuries at various medical facilities.

Given the severity of the incident, the state government has instructed that the inquiry will investigate the timeline and circumstances of the accident, its root causes, and the necessary precautions to avert future occurrences.

According to the order, the inquiry officer is expected to finalize the investigation within 30 days and present a report to the state government.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has expressed profound sorrow over the incident, describing it as extremely tragic and distressing. He paid tribute to the deceased workers and extended his condolences to their families. The Chief Minister has also instructed officials to ensure a fair and prompt investigation and to take stringent action against those found culpable.

A preliminary technical report from the Chief Boiler Inspector pointed to excessive fuel accumulation within the furnace, resulting in pressure build-up and subsequent damage to associated pipelines. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Sakti corroborated these findings, identifying fuel overload as the primary cause.
