Chandigarh, Sep 4 (NationPress) Members of Parliament from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have revealed plans to allocate their MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds towards flood relief efforts.
In a show of solidarity, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha representatives of AAP affirmed their commitment to assist the residents of the flood-affected areas.
Rajya Sabha member Sandeep Pathak took the initiative to visit the flood-impacted regions of Ferozepur to assess the ongoing rescue operations, announcing an allocation of Rs 5 crore from his MPLADS funds for relief activities.
In a similar move, Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha visited the flood-stricken areas in Gurdaspur district, pledging Rs 3.60 crore from his MPLADS funds for relief initiatives.
Another upper house representative, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, who has been actively involved in relief operations in various parts of Kapurthala district for several days, announced a grant of Rs 50 lakh from his discretionary funds. He has also provided special helpline numbers to offer personal support to the flood victims.
Additionally, Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney has committed a total of Rs 5 crore using both his MPLADS and philanthropic funds. He is extending financial assistance to the State Disaster Relief Force for the acquisition of advanced boats for flood rescue operations and modern machinery for river desilting. He has also promised funds for the construction of strong flood protection embankments to safeguard vulnerable regions from future disasters.
Sahney noted that his NGO, Sun Foundation, is actively engaged in ground relief efforts. With an outlay exceeding Rs 1 crore thus far, the foundation has supplied motorboats and ambulances, while distributing dry rations, medical kits, hygiene supplies, and fodder for livestock to families severely impacted by the floods.
Another Rajya Sabha member, Harbhajan Singh, allocated Rs 30 lakh from his funds for mobile water tankers and fogging machines. Additionally, he earmarked Rs 17.32 lakh for three boats in Ferozepur, two in Kapurthala, and one in Gurdaspur, along with four boats for Jalandhar.
