How is Kejriwal Supporting Punjab's Flood-Affected Villagers?

Sultanpur Lodhi (Punjab), Sep 4 (NationPress) The national Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal, made a visit to the flood-stricken regions of Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district on Thursday. This area has seen catastrophic flooding, leading to unparalleled devastation, particularly in the absence of the ailing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Kejriwal reassured the villagers that the government is committed to standing with families impacted by the floods.

In a press conference, Kejriwal underscored the scale of the disaster, praised the state government’s ongoing efforts for rescue and relief, and called on the Centre for immediate assistance.

Accompanying him were Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal.

Kejriwal noted that this year's flooding is among the most severe in Punjab's history, rivaling the floods of 1988, which occurred 37 years prior. He mentioned that entire villages have been inundated, resulting in catastrophic losses of homes, crops, and essential infrastructure.

Expressing profound concern for those suffering, Kejriwal reassured that both the state government and the Aam Aadmi Party are firmly committed to supporting every affected family during this difficult time.

Detailing the government’s responsive actions, Kejriwal stated, "The entire Punjab administration, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, MLAs, and all officials—including DCs, SSPs, and AAP volunteers—are dedicatedly working to rescue those in need and provide necessary relief. No effort is being overlooked."

He noted that while some families hesitate to leave their homes, others have been rescued and relocated to well-equipped relief camps where the government has ensured sufficient food, shelter, and essential supplies.

He commended the bravery and resilience of the people of Punjab, reminiscing how the state has always stood firm in times of national need, whether defending India’s borders or spearheading the Green Revolution to feed the nation.

"Even now, Punjabis are selflessly aiding one another. A true Punjabi prioritizes helping their neighbor over their own needs. This spirit will be crucial in overcoming this crisis," Kejriwal remarked.

He added that Chief Minister Mann was supposed to join him in the flood-affected areas but fell ill after tirelessly touring the region for several days without adequate rest or nutrition.

"I met with him earlier today and advised him to take a couple of days off to recuperate, as his health had worsened. Despite this, his primary concern remained how to deliver maximum relief to the people of Punjab," Kejriwal stated.

The state government has resolved to assign gazetted officers to every affected village to ensure immediate relief is delivered directly to those in need.

"Victims should not have to navigate government offices for help; assistance must be provided promptly and directly," he emphasized.

In a strong appeal to the Central government, Kejriwal said, "When a crisis impacted Afghanistan, the Centre dispatched substantial relief, which was commendable. Today, however, Punjab faces a serious crisis as well. We implore the Centre to provide comprehensive support to Punjab without delay."

Kejriwal announced that once the waters recede, the Punjab government will focus on preventing disease outbreaks, refurbishing damaged roads, compensating families who lost their homes, and aiding farmers affected by crop damage.

"We assure the people of Punjab that every possible assistance will be provided. This is not a time for politics; it is a moment for united humanitarian action," he stressed, urging individuals and organizations nationwide to step forward and assist Punjab in its time of need.
