New Delhi, Sep 2 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal made a heartfelt appeal to the nation on Tuesday, urging individuals to extend financial aid to Punjab, which is currently experiencing its most devastating floods in 37 years. He revealed that all AAP Members of Parliament and Legislative Assembly members will contribute one month’s salary to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, encouraging citizens to donate generously.
In a video message shared on the party’s official X account, AAP's National Convenor, Kejriwal, characterized Punjab as a region that has consistently nourished the nation and has been at the forefront during national emergencies.
“Punjab has always faced challenges with courage. Whenever calamities struck, Punjab was often the first to bear the brunt. During food shortages, Punjab has been there to support the country, but right now, it is Punjab that needs support. I urge all my fellow countrymen to lend a hand to the people of Punjab in any way possible during these trying times,” he stated.
Kejriwal emphasized that the extent of devastation was extraordinary, with over 1,000 villages inundated and more than 250,000 individuals displaced. Numerous acres of crops have been ruined, leaving countless families without sources of income.
“This is not just a regular flood. Such a disaster has hit Punjab after 37 years. People’s life savings and earnings have been swept away,” Kejriwal remarked.
He praised the determination and spirit of Punjabis who, even after losing their homes and jobs, continue to assist their neighbors in distress.
“There’s no better example of humanity than Punjab, where people support each other in the toughest of circumstances,” Kejriwal added, mentioning that AAP volunteers are actively on the ground distributing food, medicines, and other necessities.
The AAP leader called upon all political factions, state governments, and the central government to “put aside politics” and unite in support of Punjab during this crisis.
“The magnitude of this crisis is too great for Punjab to manage alone. The entire nation must come together to aid Punjab in overcoming this tragic event,” he urged.
The video concluded with a QR code linking to the Punjab CM Relief Fund, allowing citizens to contribute directly to the state’s recovery efforts.
