Kolkata, March 8 (NationPress) On Sunday, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, criticized the Mamata Banerjee administration for breaching regulations after a district authority delegated the management of postal ballots to the West Bengal Police Welfare Organisation.

In a post on his X handle, Adhikari asserted that this action undermines the core principles of democracy and called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take notice of the situation.

"I am profoundly disturbed and appalled by the blatant efforts of the TMC-controlled so-called West Bengal Police Welfare Organisation to erode the very foundations of our Democracy, even before elections are officially announced," Adhikari stated.

He further shared a copy of the order along with his statement, noting, "This recent directive from the Superintendent of Police; Jhargram District (dated 07/03/2026), assigns the responsibility of handling postal ballots and ED votes for Police personnel to the so-called 'Joint Convener, Welfare' of the Jhargram District Police Welfare - an organization that lacks any legal authority or standing in electoral matters. This is not just an isolated case; it's a statewide conspiracy where reserve Police officers are being directed to collect postal ballots from every Police personnel and channel them through this fraudulent 'Welfare' organization."

Adhikari accused the organization of being merely a front for the Trinamool Congress.

"The West Bengal Police Welfare Organisation serves solely as a facade for the TMC party - established without any legal basis, exclusively to advance the ruling party's interests. It is operated by a group of selected Officers who disgracefully prioritize allegiance to TMC leaders over their commitment to the citizens of West Bengal. These Officers are issuing unlawful directives, coercing junior personnel to relinquish their democratic rights, and manipulating the electoral process inappropriately, all while the Model Code of Conduct is not even active," he highlighted.

The BJP leader denounced this as a direct attack on the integrity of free and fair elections. "Essential votes from those who safeguard our society are being commandeered to corrupt the system in favor of the corrupt TMC regime," he asserted.

Calling on the election authority to intervene, Adhikari stated, "I urge the Election Commission of India (@ECISVEEP) to promptly acknowledge this overt violation and take decisive action by disbanding this illegal 'Police Welfare' body for interfering in election-related activities without any jurisdiction and to initiate strict actions against the responsible officials, starting with the SP of Jhargram and all those involved in this conspiracy."

He emphasized the necessity of ensuring that postal ballots for police personnel are managed exclusively through official channels, thereby preserving the integrity of each vote.
