Ahmedabad Court Evacuated Following Bomb Threat Email; Investigation into 'Chennai Module' Connection Underway
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, March 12 (NationPress) The Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court was evacuated on Thursday following the receipt of a bomb threat via email, prompting a thorough search by authorities. The email arrived around 4 a.m. but was only discovered by court officials at approximately 10:30 a.m. when the court opened for the day.
The communication warned of an impending explosion and urged those within the court complex to evacuate immediately.
In response to the threat, lawyers, litigants, and court personnel were safely escorted out of the building as a precautionary measure, and security teams began inspecting the premises and surrounding areas.
Departments operating from the nearby Apna Bazaar building were also evacuated to guarantee safety.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-2) Bharatkumar Rathod informed IANS that the email did not specify any particular location within the court premises.
“For safety reasons, we have evacuated the entire court area, and extensive searches are currently underway. So far, nothing suspicious has been uncovered, and we are treating this matter with utmost seriousness,” Rathod stated, noting that senior officials are overseeing the search efforts.
Bomb disposal and canine units were dispatched to the court complex, with three fire brigade vehicles stationed outside as a precaution.
Police heightened security measures in and around the vicinity while the search continued.
A senior police source confirmed to IANS that the email's content bore similarities to previous threatening messages associated with what investigators have termed the “Chennai module.”
“The email followed the same pattern observed in earlier incidents, mentioning political matters in Tamil Nadu and making derogatory comments about the ruling DMK party,” the source shared.
The official suggested a potential link to Sourav Biswas, who was arrested recently in West Bengal by the local Crime Branch and Cyber Cell for similar threats.
“We have relayed this information, and further interrogations will be conducted,” the source added.
Authorities are focusing on tracing the origin of the email while the search operation at the court complex persists.
Previously, similar threats had been directed at the Gujarat High Court and certain rural courts in the area.
