Chennai, March 9 (NationPress) The AIADMK has levied serious accusations against the ruling DMK pertaining to significant corruption and administrative mismanagement within the Madurai Corporation. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has declared a statewide protest scheduled for March 12, demanding accountability from those allegedly involved.

In a pointed announcement made on Monday, Palaniswami asserted that alarming financial discrepancies have emerged within Madurai's civic administration, implicating numerous DMK officials.

He noted that this controversy has already prompted the resignation of several key figures, including the Mayor and chairpersons of various zonal and standing committees associated with the ruling party.

Palaniswami emphasized that these resignations reflect the severity of the allegations and raise critical concerns regarding governance and accountability in the municipal administration.

Despite these significant developments, he claimed the Government of Tamil Nadu has not taken any substantive action against those implicated.

The AIADMK leader accused the State government of attempting to obscure the issue rather than promoting transparency and accountability.

According to him, the absence of a swift investigation and disciplinary measures indicates an effort to shield those purportedly involved in the irregularities.

Criticizing the Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Department's response, Palaniswami pointed out that the department has remained silent despite the gravity of the allegations.

He argued that such inaction has diminished public trust in local governance and has left the citizens of Madurai seeking answers.

Palaniswami also linked this matter to broader issues within civic administration, stating that residents continue to face challenges with insufficient basic services even as corruption allegations persist.

He insisted that the authorities must prioritize transparent governance and address the fundamental needs of the public, including essential civic infrastructure and services.

Calling for immediate intervention, Palaniswami urged the State government to conduct a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into the alleged irregularities and to impose strict penalties on those found culpable, regardless of their political affiliations.

To draw attention to this pressing issue and advocate for accountability, Palaniswami has announced that the AIADMK will hold a protest on March 12.

The party will rally its members to denounce the alleged corruption in the Madurai Corporation and demand prompt action from the government.

Furthermore, he indicated that the protest aims to spotlight what the AIADMK characterizes as the State government’s failure to uphold transparency and effective governance in local bodies.
