Chennai, Nov 22 (NationPress) The AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has vehemently condemned the Tirupur Corporation and the district administration for what he described as a “complete collapse” of civic governance.
He claimed that the fundamental infrastructure and vital services in the city are in chaos.
In a significant announcement, he revealed that the AIADMK will organize a substantial protest in Tirupur on November 25 to bring attention to what he termed the government’s “failure across all levels”.
Palaniswami stated that Tirupur, once revered as Dollar City, has now regrettably transformed into a “garbage city” under the governance of the DMK.
He alleged that piles of uncollected trash are scattered throughout numerous wards, posing a serious public health threat and showcasing the civic body’s incompetence in executing even basic responsibilities.
The AIADMK leader accused the Corporation of demonstrating “ineptitude, apathy, and political vendetta”, asserting that residents are unfairly penalized for the government’s administrative failures.
He denounced the excessive 150 percent increase in the garbage tax, labeling it an “unjust burden” on families already struggling with rising living expenses. Instead of enhancing waste-management practices, he charged that the Corporation has resorted to intimidating the public with fines for improper waste segregation.
Palaniswami also criticized the district administration for neglecting to repair roads that have been dug up for drinking water pipeline and sewer installations for extended periods. He noted that the resultant potholes have caused frequent accidents, particularly affecting women, children, and two-wheeler riders.
He claimed that the lack of inter-departmental coordination has rendered Tirupur’s roads hazardous, with authorities showing no accountability.
On the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the AIADMK chief alleged that Booth Level Officers are facing intimidation from DMK ministers, MPs, MLAs, local body representatives, and party functionaries.
He accused the official machinery of being misused to obstruct the Election Commission’s efforts and to overlook discrepancies in voter verification.
Palaniswami emphasized that the AIADMK would take this issue to the public during the protest on November 25, demanding prompt corrective measures and an end to what he referred to as the ruling party’s “abuse of power”.
