Key Takeaways
Salem, Dec 22 (NationPress) The leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has vigorously criticized the current DMK government on Monday, declaring that its time in power is approaching an ‘inevitable conclusion’ and asserting that they will not regain control in the forthcoming state elections.
During a press interaction in Salem, he extended an invitation to other political entities sharing similar ideologies to join the AIADMK-led coalition aimed at “ousting the DMK from power”.
Palaniswami condemned the DMK for allegedly not fulfilling its commitments and accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s regime of plunging Tamil Nadu into unprecedented debt. “By the end of this government’s term, Tamil Nadu will be a state burdened with five lakh crore rupees in debt. The DMK has established a new borrowing record,” he stated.
The opposition leader insisted that the state administration should provide Rs 5,000 to every ration card holder before the Pongal festival, contending that the ruling party has neglected escalating costs and livelihood issues.
EPS further criticized the DMK regarding employment and social welfare, highlighting that the government had vowed to extend the 100-day work scheme to 150 days but has not fulfilled this promise.
He pointed out that it was the Centre that raised the number of workdays to 125.
Additionally, he called upon the Union government to assess the recent railway ticket fare increase.
In response to remarks from state BJP chief Nainar Nagendran concerning alliances, Palaniswami remarked that such opinions are personal.
When questioned about the integrity of TVK, EPS stated that only the populace can determine its purity and credibility, not political figures.
He accused the DMK of misguiding voters with appealing promises, such as loan waivers and LPG subsidies, which he claimed have not materialized.
Moreover, he charged the ruling party with intentionally disregarding the needs of protesting nurses who are advocating for permanent employment.
The AIADMK leader also criticized the DMK for its claims regarding voter roll adjustments.
“The DMK asserts that one crore voters have been removed. This is untrue. Only duplicate and deceased voters have been eliminated,” he contended, adding that the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) is a standard procedure applicable to all political parties.
He humorously noted that the DMK’s reliance on deceased or fraudulent voters is historically known, asserting that genuine voters always have the chance to reapply if their names are missing.
Palaniswami concluded by stating that the 2026 election will signal the end of the DMK’s governance and that the citizens are prepared for a transition.
