Agartala, June 9 (NationPress) The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi is set to extend its support and expertise to enhance the health services in Tripura, with plans to formalize this collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government, as announced by a senior official on Monday.

Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Tripura Health and Family Welfare Department, stated that a team of four members from AIIMS visited Tripura for three days, assessing health services at various facilities, including the Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital.

“The health department of Tripura and AIIMS, Delhi are in the process of finalizing an MoU aimed at enhancing health services in the state. We are currently drafting the agreement and seeking approvals from both parties,” Gitte informed IANS.

Prof. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, New Delhi, who led the team during their visit since June 7, expressed that they will soon provide a report to the state government with recommendations for improving health services in the northeastern region.

He noted that there are some commendable aspects of Tripura's health services.

“We have pinpointed specific areas for improvement and will convey our recommendations to the state government,” the AIIMS Director stated to the media.

Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, a Professor of Paediatrics at AIIMS, New Delhi, remarked that the health infrastructure, particularly in terms of hospital beds, is in a commendable state in Tripura.

The state also boasts impressive trauma service and cancer treatment facilities, he added, highlighting that the child mortality rate in Tripura is better than the national average.

Dr. Agarwal further emphasized that excellent road connectivity allows residents of Tripura to access superior health services. He commended the Tripura government for launching the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana.

Other members of the AIIMS, New Delhi team included Dr. Aruna Kumari, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at ESIC, Faridabad, and Dr. Laxmitej Wundavalli, Assistant Professor of Hospital Administration at AIIMS, New Delhi.

The AIIMS team was invited to Tripura by Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also oversees the Health and Family Welfare portfolio.

After discussions with the AIIMS team, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to delivering the best healthcare possible to its citizens.

“I chaired a significant meeting with a delegation from AIIMS, New Delhi, and our state's healthcare officials, aimed at enhancing medical services for patients at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital,” Saha shared in a post on social media.
