Did Ajit Dada's Gift to Sharad Pawar Remain Unfulfilled?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Baramati, Jan 30 (NationPress) Senior NCP SP leader Ankush Kakade shared a poignant reflection on the late former Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and his final wish to unite the two factions of the NCP. Kakade disclosed that Ajit Pawar aimed to bring together the two NCP factions by December 12—the birthday of Sharad Pawar—as a heartfelt "gift" to the senior leader.
Despite ongoing discussions, the merger did not come to fruition in time.
Kakade recalled that Ajit Pawar had encouraged him and other prominent leaders such as Vitthal Sheth Maniar and Srinivas Patil, who share a strong connection with Sharad Pawar, to promote reconciliation. He reportedly expressed, "You have good relations with Saheb (Sharad Pawar); please speak to him. See how both NCP factions can unite once more."
Kakade reminisced about their political beginnings at the District Bank, emphasizing that Maharashtra would always remember Ajit Pawar's contributions and his role in upholding Sharad Pawar's political legacy. Although they planned to contest the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections together, a tragic incident occurred before they could finalize their reunion.
Kakade noted, “Ajit Pawar mentioned we were meant to reunite on December 12, but it didn’t happen. It’s alright; we will unite after the elections.” Regrettably, he was unable to fulfill this aspiration.
In the meantime, NCP minister Narhari Zirwal remarked that the political division within the NCP reflects the realities of "changing times and development goals," yet the emotional connection between the workers from both factions remains intact.
He highlighted that the tragedy has fostered a shared sense of mourning that transcends party affiliations. Zirwal reiterated his view that even while part of the Ajit Pawar-led faction, many leaders, including himself, continue to regard Sharad Pawar as a father figure.
"I have always maintained that despite being in two groups, Pawar Saheb’s blessings remain with us from afar," he stated. Regarding rumors of a formal reunification, Zirwal suggested that any decision would be contingent on the "will of the workers and the guidance of senior leadership."
He indicated that, in a post-Ajit Pawar era, the faction's primary focus would be stability, although he did not dismiss the possibility of a "homecoming" if it served the state's interests and their shared vision under the united NCP.
As Maharashtra enters a period of mourning, the political future of the NCP hangs in the balance, with leaders like Zirwal hinting at a potential softening of their positions in light of this national tragedy.
