New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Yogi Adityanath administration in Uttar Pradesh for unveiling a “directionless” Budget that lacks a clear plan for the state's development and fails to address the ruling BJP’s manifesto commitments.

The SP leader accused the BJP's “double engine” governments in both UP and at the national level of making a “double blunder”, leaving sugarcane farmers feeling neglected despite their prolonged wait for an increase in procurement prices.

Labeling the UP Budget for 2025-26 as lacking in “clarity”, Akhilesh Yadav remarked, “It’s a hollow Budget filled with noise and gimmicks… yet they refer to it as the largest Budget whenever they reveal the figures.”

He stated that the Budget has left even the ruling party's ministers and legislators in a difficult position as they lack anything substantial to present to the public and face inquiries.

The SP president claimed that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is nearing the end of its tenure, calling the recent Budget its “second-last Budget”.

“Next year, they will unveil their final Budget, after which we will unite to form the new government,” Yadav asserted.

Akhilesh Yadav condemned the Budget proposals, claiming they deliver empty promises to farmers, and emphasized that the UP government appears to be struggling to uphold its electoral commitments of providing MSP to farmers and free electricity for irrigation.

“Despite presenting nine Budgets, the UP government has not disclosed how much money has been allocated to settle sugarcane growers' dues or provided details on cane procurement,”

he said, criticizing the Yogi government's electoral pledge to clear cane growers' dues within 14 days.

He mentioned that SP legislators have been in contact with distressed sugarcane farmers, particularly in Saharanpur, and despite the farmers’ high hopes, the “double engine” government has failed to increase the procurement prices for their crops.
