Akhilesh Yadav Critiques BJP's Economic Promises Amidst Low Wages in Noida
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) The Chief of Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, on Friday criticized the government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at both the national and state levels, expressing his worries over the inadequate minimum wages in Noida. He also challenged the government's assertions about transforming Uttar Pradesh into a trillion-dollar economy.
While addressing the media in Delhi, Yadav pointed out that although the ruling party often promotes its 'double-engine government' model as a catalyst for economic advancement, the actual situation for laborers tells a completely different tale.
"The BJP claims to be making Uttar Pradesh a trillion-dollar economy under the 'double-engine government' model. However, the minimum wages in Noida rank among the lowest nationwide. What measures are being implemented to rectify this?" he questioned.
The leader of the Samajwadi Party further inquired why there hasn't been a substantial rise in wages for workers, despite ongoing declarations of development and investment in the state.
"What is preventing the increase in workers' wages? Who is obstructing this process? It suggests an alignment with specific interests, benefiting only a select few," Yadav alleged, insinuating that there are favored groups receiving preferential treatment.
His comments arrive amidst ongoing political clashes between the Opposition and the BJP regarding economic performance, job creation, and labor welfare in Uttar Pradesh, especially in industrial areas like Noida.
Akhilesh Yadav has been persistently vocal against the state government concerning issues related to unemployment, inflation, and the plight of workers.
He has accused the BJP of prioritizing impressive economic targets while neglecting fundamental issues faced by the populace.
Earlier on Friday, a Samajwadi Party group visited the DND Flyway in Noida, where a workers' protest was underway, accompanied by a heavy police presence, including senior officials.
Several members of the ten-person delegation, including the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Mata Prasad Pandey, were detained by police at the protest site.
Pandey remarked that the party leaders had come to the protest area to show their support for workers facing alleged injustices.
"We are here for the workers who have suffered injustice, exploitation, and unpaid wages. When they voiced their concerns, the Uttar Pradesh government ignored them, even resorting to cane charges. They were arrested and imprisoned. We are here to connect with these workers," he stated.
