Indore, Oct 25 (NationPress) Australia’s leg-spinner Alana King expressed her happiness in extracting some spin from the pitch after her remarkable bowling performance of 7 wickets for 18 runs, which led to South Africa being bowled out for 97 in the Women’s World Cup match at Holkar Cricket Stadium on Saturday. She made history as the first female cricketer to achieve a seven-wicket haul in the prestigious 50-over tournament.

Reflecting on her achievement, Alana remarked, “Taking 7 wickets feels fantastic, without a doubt. My goal is to help Australia secure a strong position, and bowling out a competitive team like South Africa for under 100 is something we can take pride in. We’ve had a few games here, and I noticed some spin in the first match and even against England a few days ago. We anticipated a bit of spin, but on a new pitch, it’s crucial to assess conditions quickly. Despite some drizzle, I managed to find some spin, and I’m quite pleased with that.”

Out of her seven wickets, four were clean bowled, showcasing the precision and skill that she brings as Australia advances to the knockout stages.

The leg-spinner attributed her success to her consistent approach and the robust support she receives from her coaches and teammates, which keeps her focused and continually evolving her game. “To be honest, I haven’t altered much. I’m fortunate to have amazing coaches, mentors, and teammates who inspire me to improve my game. I’m dedicated to fulfilling my role for Australia. I love taking wickets and contributing positively to the team's performance,” she stated.

Alana, who has emerged as one of Australia’s most reliable spin options over the past year, highlighted that her success stems from trusting her strengths and enhancing her consistency. “I wouldn’t say there’s been a significant change in the past year – if anything, I’ve aimed to be more consistent with my stock delivery and trust in it. This approach has yielded great rewards,” she explained.

When asked about her future prospects, she responded with gratitude. “I’m not sure – perhaps a higher batting position, we’ll see! I’m very content being a bowler in this team while the batters take charge. Our team has a fantastic culture, filled with self-belief and mutual support. It’s a wonderful environment to be part of.”
